KPN wins patent dispute against HTC

Dusseldorf, October 10, 2020 – The Dutch telecommunications company KPN has achieved an important partial success in a patent dispute against the handset manufacturer HTC. On August 11, the German Federal Supreme Court announced the verdict in the proceedings, which had been ongoing for roughly four years, and confirmed the validity of KPN's patents.

The core issue concerned technologies for data transmission in mobile communication networks. Of the two KPN patents under attack, one was upheld in its entirety and the other to a limited extent. Cohausz & Florack (C&F) represented KPN in court together with the law firm Krieger Mes Graf v. der Groeben.
