Recognizing innovative strength

In many companies, IP rights are simply not on the agenda – and if they are, they’re often a matter for management. How is it at your company? No doubt a great deal of innovative potential lies in your company too. Just think of your employees and the ideas they sometimes come up with to trigger new developments!

But what rights do your employees actually have to their inventions? What do you need to bear in mind in a patent application? And how can you leverage your company’s innovative strength to stay competitive in the long term? We will support you.

Your opportunities

Unleash your company’s potential

We’ll show you your company’s IP potential and accompany you every step of the way in all IP-relevant decisions: from applying for a patent, a utility model, a design, or a trademark to questions about employee invention law.

We know the law

Intellectual property rights are a complex area — but also provide a host of opportunities for innovative companies. All patent attorneys and attorneys at COHAUSZ & FLORACK possess considerable expertise in this area and will show you the measures that make best sense for your business.

Prosecution

Research

Prior to the registration of intellectual property rights and also while maintaining your existing portfolio, you should keep a good eye on the market. In that way, you can stay on the safe side and effectively prevent risks.

Fee monitoring

Your intellectual property rights are a valuable asset. A loss of rights can therefore have serious economic consequences. We prevent this by carefully monitoring the annual fees due.

UPC advice

It’s the technology that counts

As certified engineers, physicists or chemists, all patent attorneys at COHAUSZ & FLORACK have a thorough understanding of their respective specialist fields. But not only that. They combine their technical scientific expertise with exceptional patent know-how – the ideal combination in order to support our clients effectively.

Electrical engineering

Our patent attorneys deal with technical property rights in all areas of electrical engineering—for example in the areas of renewable energy, semiconductors and devices, microsystems technology and sensor technology.

The founder of the firm, Werner Cohausz, was in fact an electrical engineer. In the 20s, he carried out patent infringement proceedings in this field throughout Europe and included that wealth of experience when founding COHAUSZ & FLORACK in 1954. Today, our patent attorneys attend to technical and sometimes highly complex property rights in all areas of electrical engineering—for example in the fields of electrical energy technology and renewable energy, semiconductors and devices, circuitry, control and regulation technology, microsystem technology and sensor technology.

Mechanical engineering

Mechanical engineering is our home turf. Our clients in this line of business are companies that are heavily export-oriented and rooted mainly in Germany and Europe, for example in the fields of process and production technology, civil engineering, mechatronics, and medical technology.

Mechanical engineering is our home turf. Leading companies from the steel industry and the steel-processing industry have from the beginning been important clients of COHAUSZ & FLORACK - and still are to this very day. We were able to further expand the firm through their special need for patent and trademark protection. Our clients in the area of mechanical engineering are companies that are heavily export-oriented and rooted mainly in Germany and Europe, including global market leaders - for example in the fields of process and production technology, automotive engineering, plastics technology, civil engineering, metallurgy, mechatronics, and medical technology.

Chemistry, pharmaceuticals, life sciences

Our clients include companies from the chemical industry as well as the areas of pharmaceuticals and life sciences. We support them in all patent issues, thus defining preferably comprehensive protection for their inventions—protection that cannot be bypassed.

With us, the chemistry is just right. Since the 90s, we have been supporting companies from the chemical as well as pharmaceuticals and life sciences industries. Often issues regarding medical technology, technical chemistry, polymer chemistry, and biochemistry play a role. Patents in these areas frequently have to do with chemical processes, such as the isolation and modification of organic base materials for synthesis. But we are also increasingly involved in issues dealing with biotechnological inventions and their patenting. For several years, biotechnology has been one of the areas with the highest amount of patent applications at the European Patent Office. So what is the challenge for a good law firm? To define and provide comprehensive protection for inventions - protection that cannot be bypassed. And that is one of our strengths, which is very much appreciated by our clients.

Physics

Physical inventions are an important pillar for our firm. They often involve innovations regarding new materials, or developments involving physical procedures.
