District Court of Düsseldorf: Major patent infringement proceedings in 2019 and 2020 with participation of Cohausz & Florack

In 2019, major infringement proceedings were conducted at the civil chambers 4a, 4b and 4c of Düsseldorf District Court. C&F participated in many of them in court or was involved with them.

Düsseldorf, 22.06.2020 - The three chambers of the District Court of Düsseldorf, which specialize in patent disputes, utility model disputes, disputes under the German Employee Invention Act (Arbeitnehmererfindungsgesetz) and litigation concerning plant varieties, received a total of 361 new cases in 2019. 326 of these were patent disputes, 21 utility model disputes and 14 cases concerned employee inventions. In the same period, the chambers settled a total of 419 disputes.

Further major infringement disputes are pending in 2020. The seven most important of these have been explained in more detail for the first time by Düsseldorf District Court on its website. Many of the ongoing proceedings are of fundamental importance and are very complex from a technical, antitrust or economic point of view. Some of them deal with FRAND objections, i.e. with the conditions for the licensing of standard-essential patents (SEPs). C&F attorneys are again participating in or involved with three of the seven proceedings listed by Düsseldorf District Court.

"Düsseldorf has been one of the leading locations for patent disputes worldwide for decades. We are pleased that as a law firm we are able to make a regular contribution to this," says Gottfried Schüll, patent attorney and partner at C&F.
