Intellectual property rights secure the business location of North Rhine-Westphalia

Düsseldorf, 12 April 2015 – Germany is a land of inventors: This is demonstrated by, among other things, the number of intellectual property rights registered by German companies every year. And this with rising tendency: In 2013, taking only patents into account, a total of 63,158 applications were filed at the German Patent and Trade Mark Office (DPMA) – nearly 2,000 more than the previous year. North Rhine-Westphalia accounted for more than 7,000 of those applications.

The Hannover Messe is an annual platform for inventions: This is where exhibitors from a vast variety of industries present their latest products and technologies. How important innovations are for the business location of North Rhine-Westphalia in particular can be seen this year from 13th to 17th April at the German pavilion North Rhine-Westphalia (booth of the Ministry of Economy, Energy, Industry, SMEs and Trade of North Rhine-Westphalia). Cohausz & Florack (C&F) will present, among other things, 25 selected inventions from North Rhine-Westphalia, which were introduced onto the market in recent years. The law firm thereby underlines the significance of intellectual property rights not only for the economy, but also for personal life: “Patents simplify, trademarks structure and designs beautify our lives," says Gottfried Schüll, Patent Attorney and Partner at C&F. “What kind of abundance exists in these areas of protective law, in North Rhine-Westphalia in particular, can be seen at the Hannover Messe”. Visitors can also become active themselves by taking part in a competition at the C&F exhibition booth: The idea is to guess which area of everyday life a specific invention is used in – an exciting task for hobby inventors and technology-buffs alike.
