As a patent attorney and partner at COHAUSZ & FLORACK, Dr. Thomas Rox advises major medium-sized companies from the wood-based materials industry and the areas of domestic installation technology and household appliance technology in all matters relating to technical property rights. He is the main contact person for the clients of the firm in these sectors. In particular, he advises them on patent infringement issues and assesses patents under international license pools for video compression standards such as MPEG, AVC and HEVC.
After studying physics at the Universities of Münster and Freiburg, Thomas Rox earned his doctorate at the Max Planck Institute for Fluid Dynamics in Göttingen. He was admitted to practice as a German patent attorney and as a representative before the European Patent Office and the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) in 1996 after completing his professional training in intellectual property law. In the same year, he founded his own law firm in Cologne, which he brought into COHAUSZ & FLORACK in 1999. He has been a partner in the firm since 2001.
As a member of the Patentanwaltskammer (Chamber of Patent Attorneys), Thomas Rox is also involved in the training of young patent attorneys and has published a script to prepare for the patent attorney examination since 1998. At COHAUSZ & FLORACK he has led his own working group for several years, which has assisted many employees who work for the firm today to successfully prepare themselves for their examinations.
