Dr. Julia Konrad (née Julia Sauerwald) is an expert in the technical fields of (bio)chemistry, pharmaceuticals, and life sciences. As a patent attorney at COHAUSZ & FLORACK, she advises German and international companies in all fields of IP. She represents clients before the European Patent Office, the German Patent and Trademark Office, and the Federal Patent Court.
Dr. Julia Konrad studied biochemistry specializing in cell biochemistry and analytical chemistry at Eberhard Karls University, Tübingen (Germany). She graduated with top marks in 2014. During her studies, she gained extensive international research experience, including spending six months at the Skirball Institute of Biomolecular Medicine in New York City (USA) and two months at the Weizmann Institute of Science in Rehovot (Israel). After graduating, she did her doctorate at the Institute of Molecular Life Sciences at the University of Zurich (Switzerland), for which she received a scholarship from the Boehringer Ingelheim Fund. She made the results of her research from her degree and doctorate available to a broad professional public in scientific publications.
Her IP education, which started at COHAUSZ & FLORACK in 2018, included training periods at Düsseldorf Higher Regional Court, the German Patent and Trademark Office, and the Federal Patent Court. During her patent attorney training at COHAUSZ & FLORACK, Dr. Julia Konrad also spent several months assisting in the patent department of a well-known chemicals and pharmaceuticals corporation.
In spring 2022, Dr. Julia Konrad simultaneously qualified as a German patent attorney and a professional representative at the European Patent Office. She then spent three months gaining practical experience in US patent law as a member of the Life Science Practice Group of Haley Guiliano LLP in New York City (USA). She joined the COHAUSZ & FLORACK team as a patent attorney in October 2022 and now also as a professional representative before the UPC.
