Cohausz & Florack opens new office in Munich

Opening ceremony with representatives from the fields of law and economics

Düsseldorf, November 29, 2017 – Since November 2017, Cohausz & Florack (C&F) now also has an office in Munich. This additional location was chosen especially due to its high relevance in terms of intellectual property rights. For decades, the German Patent and Trademark Office (DPMA) as well as the European Patent Office (EPO) have had their headquarters in Munich. And the Bavarian state capital is also of particular importance as a place of jurisdiction.More than 70 guests, including numerous personalities from the areas of law and economics, took part in the opening celebration of the new C&F office at the Hotel Bayerisher Hof in Munich on November 28. The firm was able to present Prof. Dr. Siegfried Broß, former judge of the Federal Constitutional Court, as a speaker. In his speech he critically addressed the democratic and constitutional deficits of the European Patent Convention (EPC) and the planned Unified Patent Court (UPC). (An interview on this issue will be available soon at our blog). Koen Wuyts, Chief IP Counsel at the leading Dutch telecom provider KPN, then spoke about the licensing practices of the company.“Our opening event, which was well visited and accompanied by two particularly high-ranking speakers, was the ideal prelude for our further activities in Munich,” says Gottfried Schüll, Patent Attorney and Partner at C&F. “As a law firm, we wish to be located where important decisions in the field of intellectual property rights are made and to represent our clients directly on location. The choice of Munich as a further location – in addition to our headquarters in Düsseldorf – was therefore only logical.”
