Detailed profile

Dr. Margarete Rittstieg is a European and German Patent Attorney as well as a UPC Representative.

Her technical background covers a wide range of fields, including automotive engineering, battery technology, medical technology, mobile communications, energy engineering, general mechanical engineering, and construction.

At COHAUSZ & FLORACK, Dr. Rittstieg advises German and international clients on all aspects of intellectual property. She represents clients in opposition and appeal proceedings before the European Patent Office (EPO) and the German Patent and Trademark Office (DPMA) as well as in matters before German courts and the Unified Patent Court (UPC). Her experience includes the preparation of high-value litigation campaigns including the preparation of numerous infringement assessments and the coordination of multidisciplinary reverse-engineering teams — providing clients with end-to-end support in high-stakes matters. She regularly supports clients in commercially significant disputes before German courts and the UPC, thereby contributing to the monetization of large patent portfolios. She has extensive experience in EPO opposition proceedings, with a particular focus on complex cases in the medical technology sector. She also handles prosecution work before the EPO and the DPMA, applying the insights gained from contentious matters. Clients benefit from her ability to combine technical depth with a clear understanding of commercial and procedural dynamics.

Dr. Rittstieg is an active member of the Licensing Executive Society Germany (LES Germany) and serves on the Chair team of the LES Germany Young Members Committee (YMC).

She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering (Mechanical Engineering) and a Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering from RWTH Aachen University, where she also completed her doctorate in Mechanical Engineering. During her doctoral research, she worked as a project manager and research assistant at the Laboratory for Machine Tools and Production Engineering (WZL), leading consulting projects in supply chain strategy, factory planning, and production logistics.

She also gained industry experience at e.GO Mobile AG, an e-mobility start-up, where she worked in investor relations with a focus on coordinating due-diligence activities for investors. In addition, she contributed to Industry 4.0 projects at DFA Demonstrationsfabrik Aachen GmbH.

Dr. Margarete Rittstieg joined COHAUSZ & FLORACK in 2018.
