Athavan Ananthakumar
Career
Athavan Ananthakumar holds a master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Information Technology and Computer Engineering with a focus on Communications Engineering from RWTH Aachen University. In his master’s thesis, he developed AI-based methods for detecting overload situations in 5G and 6G mobile networks in order to improve quality of service. A semester abroad at the École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) further deepened his knowledge of wireless transmission systems, applied machine learning and radio frequency (RF) engineering.
He gained practical experience in the development and analysis of modern mobile networks, including at Ericsson and Apple. A key focus of his work was a system for detecting and countering unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV), which is the subject of a patent application. He also acquired further experience at the interface between technology and law at an international commercial law firm, where he prepared technical sections of statements of claim.
Since May 2026, Athavan Ananthakumar has been training as a patent attorney at COHAUSZ & FLORACK. He supports the firm’s electrical engineering practice and is being trained within a specialised technical team.
He speaks German, English, and Tamil, and has a basic command of French.
