Two new patent attorneys at C&F

Dr. Natalie Kirchhofer and Michel Kaminsky reinforce the firm in the fields of chemistry, pharmaceuticals & life sciences, engineering and technology

Düsseldorf, 27 April, 2015 – Cohausz & Florack (C&F) is continuing to grow: Dr. Natalie Kirchhofer and Michel Kaminsky joined the Düsseldorf patent law firm in October 2014. Natalie Kirchhofer holds a PhD in biochemistry and is specialized in the areas of chemistry, pharma and life sciences. She advises both biotech startups as well as German and international chemical and pharmaceutical companies. Michel Kaminsky has a degree in physics and focusses on technical IP rights for national and international companies at C&F. He has experience in general mechanical engineering and in the areas of material science, information, medical and energy technology. After passing the German and European patent attorney exams in 2014, both of them successfully completed secondments at US law firms in order to gather hands-on experience in US patent law. During that time, Natalie Kirchhofer also successfully sat the USPTO patent bar exam. In their daily work at C&F both particularly deal with rendering validity and freedom-to-operate opinions, drafting patent applications and the representation of clients in patent granting, opposition and nullity proceedings. Natalie Kirchhofer and Michel Kaminsky had already been trained as patent attorneys at C&F. They were among the 10 best graduates of the European qualifying examination (EQE) for patent attorneys in 2014 thus putting them in the top 1% of their year.

“We invest heavily in the training of our attorneys and are always encouraged by the positive experience of taking on our own candidates as patent attorneys. In that way we can use the potentials that they have discovered and developed further during their training in our firm directly”, says Dr. Arwed Burrichter, patent attorney and partner at C&F. “We will substantially expand our services in the future for which we will take on further highly qualified attorneys.” At the same time that Natalie Kirchhofer and Michel Kaminsky joined as patent attorneys, three other trainee candidates also began their work at C&F. Thus, the firm is currently providing vocational training for eight young graduates to become patent attorneys.
