Düsseldorf/Munich, April 23, 2026 – COHAUSZ & FLORACK (C&F) is expanding its presence in Munich: Matthias Rottmann, patent attorney at C&F since 2024, is now permanently based at the firm’s Munich office. In addition, Mathias Karlhuber, long-standing partner at C&F, will be on site regularly.
Munich is not only a major hub for technology and innovation, but also a leading centre for intellectual property protection in Germany and Europe. The German Patent and Trademark Office (GPTO), the European Patent Office (EPO), and the German Federal Patent Court (FPC) are all located here. Moreover, the Unified Patent Court (UPC) is also represented with a central and two local divisions.
With its strengthened presence in Munich, C&F can offer its clients even more efficient advice and improved service, from the filing to the enforcement of their intellectual property rights. For clients, this means above all shorter distances, faster coordination, and even closer personal support.
Matthias Rottmann completed his physics studies and doctorate at the Technical University of Munich and subsequently trained as a patent attorney at C&F in Düsseldorf. He advises clients on the filing, granting, defence, and enforcement of technical property rights, particularly in the fields of physical technology as well as information and communication technology.
Mathias Karlhuber studied mechanical engineering in Munich, Hamburg, and Chicago and worked for patent law firms in Hamburg and Berlin before joining C&F in Düsseldorf in 2001. He advises clients primarily on the strategic development and enforcement of their patent portfolio, especially in the fields of medical technology, video streaming, and semiconductor lithography, and has extensive experience in conducting complex patent litigation proceedings before the EPO, the German courts, and the UPC.
C&F’s Munich office is centrally located at Stollbergstrasse 18 (district Altstadt-Lehel), providing quick access to the relevant patent offices and courts. In addition, regionally based companies and inventors in particular benefit from a direct local point of contact.
“The expansion of our Munich office is a consequent step for us to provide our clients with the best possible support. We are delighted to have secured the ideal team for this with Mathias Karlhuber and Matthias Rottmann,” says Arnd Ziebell, patent attorney and partner at C&F.
