Düsseldorf, December 20, 2024 – Three long-standing partners, Andreas Thielmann, Dr. Thomas Rox, and Hans-Joachim Meyer, are retiring from active practice at Cohausz & Florack (C&F) at the end of the year. They have all contributed significantly to the firm’s success over their careers and have helped to build and cement the firm’s reputation as one of the most influential patent and law firms.
Andreas Thielmann has been a patent attorney at C&F since 1991. He became a partner in 1993, making him the firm’s longest-standing partner. Over the course of his career, he advised numerous German and international clients on all fields of intellectual property law, primarily in the areas of mechanical engineering, packaging technology, environmental and power plant technology. With his wealth of experience and expertise, Andreas Thielmann regularly promoted the training of young patent attorneys in the firm. He was active in various international IP organizations and as an honorary judge in the Senate for Patent Attorney Matters at the Federal Court of Justice (Bundesgerichtshof – BGH) in Karlsruhe.
Dr. Thomas Rox has been a patent attorney at C&F since 1998 and a partner since 2001. His clients included large SMEs from the timber industry, home installation technology, and household appliance technology. In addition to extensive patent infringement and validity proceedings, he also carried out the assessment of patents in the context of international license pools for video compression standards such as MPEG, AVC, and HEVC. He was also committed to the training of young patent attorneys and headed his own working group. His script for preparing for the patent attorney exam is still used by young trainees today.
Hans-Joachim Meyer joined C&F in 1996 and was made a partner in 2005. His clients included well-known SMEs in the fields of metal processing, automotive engineering, sanitary engineering, household appliance technology, and timber technology. They benefited from his many years of experience and expertise in patent infringement matters, IP rights applications, and opposition and revocation suits.
“Andreas Thielmann, Thomas Rox, and Hans-Joachim Meyer have played a pivotal role in our law firm’s incredible development over the years to become such a central player in IP for innovative clients,” says patent attorney Gottfried Schüll, who is now the oldest partner in the firm with the retirement of the three partners. “On behalf of the entire firm, I wish them all the best for the new phase in their lives.”
