Düsseldorf, 02.08.2018 – The Düsseldorf Regional Court is the busiest court in patent cases in Germany and Europe. In 2017, 499 new cases were heard, 486 of which were patent disputes. The majority of them were from the medical and IT sectors. A total of 492 cases were completed. By publishing its case figures, Düsseldorf Regional Court was the first patent court in Europe to provide information for 2017. Other important patent courts also published their figures as a result: As the second strongest court, Mannheim filed 215 new patent and employee cases. Munich reported 181 new patent, utility model and employee invention cases.
The Hague, London and Paris, the other important patent locations in Europe, cannot match these figures. This was reported by the magazine JUVE with reference to patent experts. For example, a JUVE flash survey of Dutch patent attorneys showed that The Hague Rechtbank, the first instance in the Dutch patent system, registers no more than 100 new patent cases per year. According to JUVE, Dutch judges decide between 30 and 50 cases annually. However, no official information is available.
