Cohausz & Florack is “European Cross-Border Patent Litigation Team of the Year”
Düsseldorf, April 11, 2025 – Cohausz & Florack (C&F) is “European Cross-Border Patent Litigation Team of the Year”: At this year’s Managing IP Awards, the firm from Düsseldorf was recognized for its outstanding achievements in the field of intellectual property. C&F’s tremendous success for Bayer in the dispute over the drug Xarelto and its Europe-wide strategy in the battle against generics manufacturers were the key factors in the firm winning the award. The team led by Dr. Natalie Kirchhofer and Dr. Arwed Burrichter, patent attorneys and partners at C&F, is representing Bayer along with a team from law firm A&O Shearman. Together, they are not only running the German proceedings but also coordinating the Europe-wide disputes that are now pending in more than 25 countries. It was only in February and March of this year that Munich Higher Regional Court (Oberlandesgericht) upheld Bayer’s preliminary injunctions against several generics manufacturers. Prior to this, C&F had successfully defended Bayer’s patent before the European Patent Office (EPO) Board of Appeal in extensive opposition proceedings against 15 opponents.
“We are delighted to win this award,” says Dr. Arwed Burrichter, who accepted the prize with Dr. Natalie Kirchhofer at the ceremony in London on April 10, 2025. “We also see the award as a tribute to the achievements of innovative companies like Bayer, whose products drive medical progress and enable new treatments for patients.”
The annual Managing IP Awards honor law firms, individuals, and companies from Europe, the Middle East, and Africa who have committed themselves to the cause of strengthening intellectual property and expanding the international IP market.
