Recording CFWebinar: Life Sciences 4.0 – IP protection in Europe for Digital Innovations in the Life Sciences

Recording from August 24, 2021

Digital innovations are one of the most exciting opportunities in the Life Sciences, Health Care and Med Tech sectors. For example, artificial intelligence shows great promise in improving data collection, processing and modelling in areas such as gene sequencing, nucleic acid hybridization, protein structure prediction, drug development, pharmacology, clinical development and personalized patient care. However, acquiring patents in the field of computer-implemented inventions is far from straight-forward before the European Patent Office. In contrast to other technical areas, where patent protection is easily feasible, a successful IP strategy for digital innovations requires complementary IP rights such as trade secrets, copy rights, designs and trademarks to be taken much more into account.

This webinar therefore consists of two parts:
In the first part on patents, our digital innovation expert Björn Brouwers will explain how to best obtain patent protection for digital Life Sciences innovations in Europe. In the second part on non-patent rights, our legal expert Dr. Reinhard Fischer will explain what other possibilities besides patents exist for protecting digital Life Sciences innovations in Europe.
