Intellectual Property is a vital part of a company‘s value and crucial for ensuring a competitive edge. IP monetization is an often underdeveloped or overlooked aspect of IP asset management. With increasing cost pressure and the demand for alternative business models, more and more companies are looking at creating stronger return-on-invest from their patent and trademark portfolios. For patents and trademarks that would otherwise sit on the shelf, IP monetization is an attractive revenue-generator.

The seminar will introduce you to the basic concepts of IP monetization and provide best practice examples from leading industry case studies. The seminar aims at assisting you in developing an IP monetization strategy that meets your business goals. We are particularly pleased that with Tobias Kessler, in-house counsel at Papst Licensing and Nokia’s Head of Dispute Resolution EMEA & APAC, Dr. Clemens-August Heusch, two renowned experts in patent monetization will join us as external speakers to share their experiences and best practice tips. Papst Licensing looks back on an impressive journey from starting off with monetizing the patent portfolio of Papst-Motoren GmbH & Co. KG to becoming one of the industry’s leaders in providing patent monetization options for companies in Germany and abroad. Mr. Kessler will provide a general overview on the various forms of IP monetization, including sale, licensing, divesting, and litigation and associated strategic considerations. Dr. Heusch will complement this overview by sharing his insights on licensing of standard-essential patents (SEPs) and associated litigation and alternative dispute resolution strategies.

Mathias Karlhuber, patent attorney and partner at COHAUSZ & FLORACK will round off the seminar by explaining how to strategically build an IP Portfolio and how to optimize it for monetization purposes.
